*THE BARREN NORTH*

The final resting place for most convicted criminals that are sentenced to exile rather than death. This, of course, is as much a death sentence as a literal one, it merely takes a while longer. Most are sent to work in the sapphire mines deep beneath the arctic tundra that covers the whole of the island. Escape is a rare thing and when those few who are fortunate enough to escape are tracked, they are usually found as permanent residents or torn asunder by ravaging animals. There is no record of anyone surviving an exile to the Barren North.
